- Beatrice Schenk deRegniers -- one of my all-time favorite people -- died March 1, 2000 at the age of 85. Her husband Francis survived. Many of her books remain in print and still delight young readers.
- Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991 at the age of 91. His wife Audrey S. Geisel established a foundation in his name and his "Cat in the Hat" became the logo for the National Education Association sponsored "Read Across America" day. - Margot Zemach died on May 21, 1989. She died of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS or "Lou Gehrig's Disease" after the popular baseball player who died of the same disease.
