Nancy Plum (1801-1881)
Nancy Plum, the second wife of John E. Dalrymple, was born in Virginia in 1801 of German parentage. She married John E. Dalrymple after the death of his first wife, Nancy Jane Hall. Dalrymple had two children from his first marriage and together they became the parents of seven children, five daughters and two sons, all of whom had passed away by 1914 except for their son John A. Dalrymple. Nancy Plum moved from Shelby County Ohio with her husband John E. Dalrymple to Bureau County, Illinois. The couple lived in Illinois for three years, after which they came to Delaware County, Iowa where they made their home for the rest of their lives. John E. Dalrymple was a farmer by occupation and owned and operated a fine farm of one hundred and twenty acres. He participated in the War of 1812, serving under Commodore Perry on Lake Erie. He passed away on April 24, 1878, and Nancy died three years later on August 15, 1881.
