John E. Dalrymple (1792-1878)
John E. Dalrymple, a native of South Carolina, was born in 1792 of Scotch parentage. He went to Ohio in his young manhood and there married Nancy Jane Hall, by whom he had two children. Mrs. Dalrymple passed away and he married Miss Nancy Plum, who was born in Virginia in 1801 of German parentage. She became the mother of seven children, five daughters and two sons, all of whom had passed away by 1914 except for their son John A. Dalrymple. John E. Dalrymple and his wife Nancy left Shelby County Ohio and moved to Bureau County, Illinois, where they remained for three years. After that time they moved to Delaware County, Iowa where they made their home for the rest of their lives. John E. Dalrymple was a farmer by occupation and owned and operated a fine farm of one hundred and twenty acres. He participated in the War of 1812, serving under Commodore Perry on Lake Erie. He passed away on April 24, 1878, and Nancy died three years later on August 15, 1881.

- Married Jefferson Lowe (b. 1817) on August 19, 1853 by Justice of the Peace A. J. Lowe, in Delhi, Iowa. Sarah was 24 at the time of her marriage; Jefferson was 36.
