Mary Elizabeth Lux (1848-1895)
Mary Elizabeth Lux was born in April (either 8 or 9) in 1848 in Prussia, the third child and first daughter of Mathias (Matthew) Lux and Mary Catherine (surname unknown)
-- both immigrants born in Prussia. Mary was just one year old when the
family emigranted, in 1849, and settled first in Schenectady, New York.
In 1855, the family trekked westward and settled in Dubuque, Iowa, and
in 1864 settled in Section 35, Delhi Township, Delaware County, Iowa.
On January 17, 1870 she married John Peter McElmeel in the Catholic Church in Dyersville, Iowa.
The couple made their home on farms in Milo Township, Delaware County, Iowa. Mary Elizabeth died in 1895. See obituary - Mary Lux McElmeel.
